Thistlelonian's reunion

On Saturday 25th October, in the College Assembly Hall,
previous generations of McKinnon students gathered to meet up with schoolmates and recall their memories of the their time at McKinnon High School / Secondary College.
Upon arrival and the greeting of Principal, Mrs. Binnion, a tour of the College was a must and many were amazed to see the transformation from their time here as teenagers.
We were delighted to have members of “The Originals” with us.

In 1959, they were the first group to graduate from the newly created McKinnon High School, and were warmly greeted by all the other younger groups present.
The youngest group present were the graduation year of 2009 at their first reunion and giving an age span of early 20’s to mid-70’s, and a wonderful atmosphere within the hall. In all, some 300 were able to join us, coming from as far as Darwin to recount fond memories.
We were also fortunate to have past and present teaching staff members with us, including Mr. Andrew Leopold, who taught at McKinnon between 1959-61 and Mr. Ron Smith from the mid-60’s.
The Thistlelonians is the “Ex-Students and Staff Association” and our main aim is to keep the now 60 year old McKinnon community in touch with their friends from younger days and to make all still feel part of, and be proud of, the modern McKinnon SC community.
Our special thanks to the volunteers who worked to make it a grand occasion and this includes many present college administration and teaching staff members who give up their time to enable all to come along and feel honoured to be part of the rich history of McKinnon.
