A lovely warm night was forecast for Thursday 6th November, much to the relief of the Arts staff. With 146 students receiving Arts awards in the Art/Tech courtyard, and hundreds of family and well wishers, rain is always a frightening thought! But the balmy night this year, was perfect.The sounds of Moran Zhou’s saxophone set a cheery, upbeat mood. There was a slightly frantic bustle at the Slip Club table, where people were snapping up a bargain of student made and decorated slip cast bowls and plates, which were a fundraiser for our Spanish sister school in Cuenca. The seven art rooms were filled with people, young and old, marveling at and enjoying the talents of our students.
In the official ceremony, Luisa Marollo and Lambrini Niaros, thanked our sponsors and introduced Ms Rosemary Etherton, an Education Officer from The National Gallery of Victoria, who spoke very favourably of the standard of our student’s artworks and officially opened the Arts Show.
Lewis Timber in Jasper Rd, McKinnon, were once again the main sponsor of the Arts Show, funding the monetary prizes for the VCE students, and the bulk of the awards for the Year 7-10s. I would like to publicly again acknowledge and thank this very generous financial contribution and support from Lewis Timber. If you need any wood, for renovating or building, we highly recommend Lewis Timber in Jasper Rd. Support the people who support our school!
I would also like to thank Buxton Real Estate for their board advertising the Arts Show. Thank you also to Zart Art in Box Hill North, Jim Bonikos from Campion, Colour Products in Moorabbin, The Pug Mill, Northcote Pottery and Spotlight.
And the biggest thank you has to go to the extremely hard working Arts staff, Mrs Browning, Mrs Cowland, Ms Doctor, Ms Levy, Mr Perry, Mrs Pryor, Mr Quinn, Ms Rodin and Mrs Turner, without whom an Arts Show on such a huge scale would not be possible.
