Junior School Assembly

Friday December 5th saw our final Assembly for 2014 -attended by students from Years 7 to 9.
The Ovenden Band provided a wonderful opening to proceedings with a spirited performance of our National Anthem, featuring vocalists Tess Hodgson, Amy Thitt and Maggie-Rose Scott-Hill. The Band then performed ‘River City Ramble’ by Eric Osterling.
Mr Kan then introduced our 2014 Junior School Captains, Amber Irving and Matt Simos, who then conducted the remainder of the Assembly.
Mrs Binnion thanked our Junior School Leaders, Amber and Matt, together with their Deputies Maya Salvatore and Nick Roberts, for their efforts throughout 2014. Mrs Binnon also thanked the Junior School Student Managers for their great work in supporting and leading the students in their care.
Our next speaker was Ms Pentland, who congratulated and presented on stage all of our Junior School ‘Writers of the Month’ for 2014.
Mr McLeod then presented prizes (on behalf of Ms Schmidt) to the Junior School students that raised the most funds in support of ‘State Schools’ Relief’ in our 24/7 Relay Challenge. Congratulations and well done to Tom Johnston and Owen Robinson (Yr 7) and Aiden Farrell (Yr 8). Special congratulations to Chloe Swan of Yr 7, who raised the most money of all the girls that entered the 24/7 -$367. Chloe was presented with signed and framed print of our famous Gold Medal Olympian, Sally Pearson.
Our 2014 recipients of the City of Glen Eira ‘Student Achievement’ Awards were announced and presented with a framed certificate and a gift voucher, courtesy of the City of Glen Eira. The awards were in recognition of outstanding contributions in both academic and extra-curricular participation. Congratulations to our award winners: Chloe James (Yr 7), Zoe Bartholomeusz (Yr 8) and Brinda Manogaran (Yr 9).
The Junior School Leadership positions for 2015 were then announced, with the successful candidates being presented on stage. Congratulations to all of the following students:

Our 2014 Junior School Deputy Captain, Nick Roberts, announced and presented on stage our Junior sporting teams that recently participated in finals at the State level. Congratulations and well done to the following teams:
Year 8 Boys Table Tennis -3rd in State
Year 8 Girls Softball -3rd in State
Year 7 Girls Cricket -2nd in State
Year 8 Boys Hockey -2nd in State
Year 7 Girls Table Tennis -2nd in State
Year 8 Boys Baseball -State Champions (2013 and now back to back in 2014!)
Mr Hislop concluded our presentations by showing a video of the highlights of our Year 8 ‘Survivor’ program from throughout the Year. 8H were congratulated and presented on stage with the ‘Survivor Shield’ as the overall winning class for 2014. Congratulations and a big thank you to Mr Hislop for his leadership of the ‘Survivor’ program.
