Open Night

Open Night is a premier event in the life of the College.  Each Learning Area showcases its Programs and Staff discuss courses, learning styles, content and associated extra curricular activities.
On May the 5 th the evening commenced with a senior quartet playing in the Assembly Hall Foyer.  Senior School Captains and leaders  welcomed families with a package containing a folio of Transition documents, a program and flyer. Collectively these inform parents of the key values which form the underlying principles of our education platform.

The Information Briefing  was introduced with an outstanding performance by the Senior Stage Band.  College Principal, Mrs Pitsa Binnion officially welcomed families and announced  a $9.5 million dollar grant from the State Government. These funds will enable the school to commence Stage 2 of the current Building Plan.  Our Curriculum Manager, Mr Richard Long and Our Head of Junior School, Mr Les McLeod provided an insight into the broad ranging Curriculum and related opportunities at McKinnon Secondary College.  Mrs Jenny de Kretser spoke to parents about the Application Process.

Mr McLeod invited parents to view the various Faculty displays and demonstrations as they toured the school.  Prospective students saw students undertaking various activities, including  Sport and Physical Education Demonstrations,  a variety of amazing Arts, delicious Food Technology  samples, colourful  Mathematics and dynamic Science experiments,  Musical Presentations and tutorial facilities  and  Humanities displays including History, Geography and Commerce/ Business fields of study.   Students of German and French worked in the Library and also prepared food typical of each Culture’s  cuisine.

Tours of the College during the evening provided an opportunity for our Local Community to meet and share exchanges with Staff and friends.  Children enjoyed seeing the array of facilities, Specialist teaching spaces and for prospective Year 7 students, the Year 7 Centre with its associated staff offices  and discussion spaces.  Parents and children were invited to attend our Tours of the school at work on May 7 and 12.  We hope that families left the College feeling confident about the opportunities provided by State Government education and for our part, at McKinnon Secondary College.
