Survivor Science

On Monday the 17th of august, all the year 8 classes celebrated science week by participating in a survivor challenge. 

The challenge was broken down into 2 parts (quizzes and challenges. We had our first quiz and after this followed a challenge. 

The first challenge consisted of students building a car from cardboard and testing how far the car could go. In third place for this challenge was Ibiza from 8M with a score of 390cm. In 2nd place was Rottnest Island from 8N with a score of 423 cm and the winners of the first challenge were Madeira from 8C with a magnificent score of 493 cm.




After our second quiz, we had our last challenge which involved building a free-standing tower made out of paper. We had a time limit of 10 minutes and the tower then had to stand for 5 seconds for it to be counted. In third place for this challenge with a height of 128 cm was Rottnest Island from 8N. Coming in at second place was Aland Island from 8K with a height of 130 cm and in 1st place with only a difference of 6cm between 2nd and 1st with a score of 136 cm was Sardinia Island from 8B. 

At the end of the day all the scores were tallied up and the final results were, in equal 2nd place with 96 points were NAURU from 8E and MADEIRA from 8C and with an outstanding score of 98 points were Rottnest Island who consisted of Jeremy Zivin, Gemma Strangio, Steph Tsamourtzis, Ben Solly and Jess Ponsford.
