State Swimming Championships

On 19 April, thirteen students represented the college at the State Swimming Championships.
This is the biggest team we have ever had at the state level.

Maya Hammam, fresh off winning Gold at the Australian Age Championships, swam very well winning two Silver (50m freestyle and 50m butterfly) and one Bronze medal (100m butterfly). It should also be celebrated that Maya won the Bronze medal competing against swimmers 4-5 years older. The future is bright.

Will Sharp, also a medallist at the Australian championships, became SSV champion in the 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly events. He also collected a Silver medal in the 50m freestyle, beaten by just 0.20 of a second.

He then joined his teammates (Daniel Gershenzon, Aaron Khominsky and Jacob Gray) for the 12-14yrs medley relay. The boys fought hard against Maribyrnong High School who went on to break the state record by 2 seconds. The boys won a Silver medal in a time of 2.14.55.

In the freestyle, the boys had their revenge. This time the team of Will Sharp, Alan Tang, Daniel Gershenzon and Jacob Gray pulled out a blistering time of 1.59.75, only missing the state record by 3 seconds and beating Maribyrnong by over 5 seconds. A Gold medal was received to finish the day. Will Sharp finished the day with three Gold and two Silver medals.

On a day of records for McKinnon, it was also our best team result finishing in 6th place overall on the day.

We wish all the students participating in state diving all the best on Wednesday 20 April.
