Soccer Stars

McKinnon’s finest football (soccer) stars flying high!

Year 11 soccer star Melina Ayres has recently been selected in the Young Matildas’ squad to represent Australia at this month’s 2016 AFF Women’s Championship to be held in Mandalay, Myanmar from 26th July - 4th August.

Melina, was a member of Melbourne City’s Championship winning W-League squad for the recent season of 2015/16.

Melina’s season began in spectacular fashion scoring a 90th minute goal in Melbourne City’s first ever match in the National competition. She was also a substitute player in City’s winning Semi Final W-League match against Brisbane Roar. She has recently signed on again with Melbourne City, and we look forward to watching her career progress further this season. Good luck representing Australia in the Matilda’s team Melina, and also in the W-League this season.

Year 12 boys Theo Papageorgiou and Lior Kalisse have been selected to represent Victoria at the Australian School Sports Championships to be held in Perth next month between 20th-26th August.

Theo playing for his former club Oakleigh Cannons, had a fantastic season of Senior Football playing for the Cannons as they progressed through to the Quarter Finals of the nation wide professional knockout competition, the FFA Cup.

Lior also plays in the National Premier League, however for rivals Port Melbourne FC. We wish both the boys all the best in the tournament next month.

Our final football star story involves Year 10 Teresa Morrissey, who has also been selected to represent Victoria at the Australian School Sports Championships in Perth. Teresa is only 16 years of age, but will represent Victoria in the Under 19 National Championships which is a tremendous achievement.
Teresa is a goalkeeper playing for NTC (National Training Centre). We wish her luck in the Championships next month.
