Senior Girls Football

The Senior Girls Football team participated in the Kingston Division Round Robin on Thursday 3 May. McKinnon played three teams for the day: Brighton, Sandringham and Parkdale.

Our first clash was against Brighton. The tone of the day was set in our first clash. The attack on the ball, and the opponent, was a clear strength of our team right from the first bounce. Led by Arwen Verdnick in the ruck, as well as Angel Aguilera and Hayley Carter in the midfield and stand out efforts from Lara Van Zyl, Kat Gill and Ally Manev up forward, McKinnon led our opponent to the ball and were never headed.

Round 2 saw us take on Sandringham. We picked up where we left off, with a barrage of goals sailing over the goal umpire, Jess Ponsford's, hat. Jemma Owen was set loose across the half forward line, booting five goals and Holly Watkins was dominant, as McKinnon ran away to a comfortable victory.

Round 3 saw the undefeated McKinnon take on the undefeated Parkdale to battle it out for the coveted Kingston Division Pennant. Parkdale began well, winning the territory battle out of the middle. However, the backline, led by Teresa Morrissey and Julia Pavlou, who were dominant across half back all day, stood up to the test, keeping Parkdale scoreless from 14 inside 50 entries in the first term. The midfield began to gain the ascendancy as the contest progressed, and stand out efforts from Gemma Strangio and Lilly Felder saw McKinnon romp to Victory, keeping our opponent scoreless yet again.

Parkdale 0.0.0

McKinnon now progress to the next round, competing in the SMR on Thursday 2 August.
