This year's Athletic Carnival was held on Wednesday 18th August at Duncan MacKinnon Athletic Track in extremely windy conditions.

Some significant changes took place this year with all shot put, discus and javelin events going metric, hence with lighter weights being thrown in some age groups.

In total 25 records were broken on the day, many made possible because of the significant wind assistance.  As we do not have a ruling on wind assistance it is felt that all the new records should stand.

One major problem we did encounter however was with the running of the hurdle events.  Unfortunately some of these events were conducted over the incorrect distance whilst others were conducted with the hurdles at the wrong height.  To make it fair on previous record holders we cannot accept these results however we will accept the times at the next round (district sports) and allow records created on that day.

Congratulations to everyone who participated or helped with the running of the day.

Thank you to all the staff who helped out and a special thanks to our two parent helpers.
Maureen Austin and Karen Duthie.

Year 8 students: Nick, James, Robbie, Nicky, Adam and Evan were fantastic helpers on the day. A big thanks to all of you.

It should be pointed out that this is a major school event and attendance is compulsory.  Far too many students fail to attend on the day. We need all parents/guardians to insist with their children that they attend. We risk losing the major event status if we are not supported from home.

The District Sports Carnival will be held on Monday 6th September. Parents are welcome to attend and cheer home our athletes. We will be wearing our newly acquired uniforms this year which should give us the edge on our competition.
