This year our theme was Country of Origin and again students took on the challenge of dressing up and enjoying the carnival. All our fears of poor weather evaporated with the arrival of glorious sunshine and this made for greater competition and participation. Attendance was down on previous years and the gloomy, wet start to the day did not encourage students to be a part of the day's events. However I was delighted to see 18 records broken in a variety of different disciplines. Special congratulations go to the following students who had outstanding results - Louis Benalcazar, Felix Kennedy, Joel Murcia, Diana Mladenoski, Juliet Austin, Travis Harry, Talia Haberman, Ben MacNab, Michael Quinn, Ben Rose and Verity Clough. The day's normal track and field events were punctuated with a variety of novelty events enabling many more students to contribute to their House points and have fun. A new relay event was instituted this year, a 50m shuttle relay, which also proved most successful. The Parade of Nations was staged on the track in bright sunshine and the variety of costumes was tremendous with Greek, Indian, Israeli, 2 Jewish Rabbi's, American Indian and a member of the KGB to name a few. Well done to the SRC for their contribution on the day in the form of a sausage sizzle which proved most welcome to students and staff throughout the day. Congratulations to the House Captains who worked very hard on the day to ensure all events had participants and a big thankyou to all the staff who worked tirelessly to make the day the success it was. We now look forward to the Beachside District Sports on the 11th September and encourage parents of team members to come and support our team. Final results : 1st Monash 1305, 2nd Gilmore 1196, 3rd Chisholm 1013 and 4th Flynn 900.
