Bonus! Extra Pix from Ms Kolber

With fingers crossed and hopes that Hughie, the deity in charge of rain, would be kind for a change, McKinnon Secondary College once again put on silly costumes, posed for cheesy photos and occasionally had a swim.

Hughie was kind, only letting down a minor shower (unlike previous years - 1999 2000) but the sky made organisers nervous:

Ms Kolber's Bonus Pix

Back to McKinnon Secondary College

It's beginning to be a little predictable, grey skies, cool breeze, and weather forecast predicting rain easing to showers. McKinnon sporting carnivals have not been lucky with the weather, but this year the skies cleared, the air temperature warmed and the mermaids were out and about for the 'Under the Sea' Swimming Sports 2001.

Mr's McLeod and Kolb kept everyone grooving to the sound track from The Little Mermaid and the Beatles' Octopuses Garden. Mrs West organised her Choir ensemble to do a rendition of "Under the Sea" with John Harrop providing the 'deep sea' bass. The lunchtime fashion parade was again a lavish spectacle of colour and movement with Gilmore being considered by Mr Lawrence to be the best dressed House.

This year we saw the largest attendance of students in some time and many more students swam, entered novelties, played volleyball and water polo than in previous years. There were many highlights with the water polo again having a large crowd of students cheering on their houses. Monash was successful in the senior and Gilmore in the junior competitions. The standard of play has greatly improved, perhaps a few students have picked up some pointers from the Gold medal Australian women's team!!

The beach volleyball was a premier event with all houses fielding teams. Ms Jenkinson kept the teams on their toes with some superb dives being made by enthusiastic team members.

In the competition pool we had a number of outstanding results from the following students:

Open: Esli Holleman, Sarah Baxter
U/17: Lauren Nougher
U/16: Daniel Balog new record
U/16 butterfly, Jessica Kallergis
U/15: Josh Fotopoulos new record Boys
U/15 200m Iron man, Juliette Austin
U/14: Luke Morrison, Claire Humphries
U/13: Damien Vosk, Will Frachville, Susan Zielin

Congratulations to the Junior and Senior House Captains for their efforts in organising their competitors and to all students who participated in the carnival, be that dressing up, swimming or just cheering on your House.

Thank you to the McKinnon staff for their efforts on the day without the positive support provided by the staff the event would not have been the success it was.
