McKinnon Secondary College
Peer Support 2002On the 10th and 11th of October, 2002, McKinnon Secondary College ran the Peer Support Program with over 200 year 10 students. Peer Support promotes responsibility, self-confidence and leadership qualities that can be developed in a comfortable, although sometimes challenging, student-run forum. Balloons were burst, tails were chased and chocolate was devoured as students discussed the issues that impact on students in our new world. The trust that was developed throughout the two day program helped forge new friendships, as well as consolidate for many a desire to be involved in the program as leaders in 2003. The skills that the staff leaders passed on to the year 10 students will now be used to help the year 7 class of 2003 adjust more easily to the rigours of secondary school life. Each week in term 1 there will be a lesson devoted to Peer Support, where two senior students will take a group of year sevens through aspects of the program that will aid their integration into our college. Congratulations to all the students who participated in the Peer Support activities this year with an open mind and a keenness that is sure to impact on next year's year sevens.
