SOVEREIGN HILL EXCURSION

On Thursday 12 June 2003, four members of staff and 70 Year 9 students of Australian History set off for the Sovereign Hill outdoor museum in Ballarat.

The major focus of the day was to visit one of the sites of the gold rushes in the 1850s.

Students enjoyed the following activities:

1. Voyage to Discovery
2. Tour of the Red Hill Mine
3. Sessions with the Education Officers:
4. Life of the Digger
5. Chinese on the Goldfields
6. Health and Hygiene on the Goldfields
7. Gold pouring demonstration
8. Laser show: Blood on the Southern Cross.

In their free time, students were able to follow the Diggings Dawdle trail, visit authentic shops and the bowling alley, and watch people at work in period costumes.
