A report on the year 12 camp

Mrs Binnon's statistics from VCE 2004...

Today, I would like to take the opportunity to report to you on the performance of the Class of 2004. Once again, McKinnon Year 12 students achieved academic excellence.

At the end of Year 12, student results are added and students receive a National Ranking (ENTER). The highest possible rank is 99.95. Last year, the top rank achieved was 99.85 and for the first time, three students achieved this score. Those students were Lisa Youn, Andrew Jewell and Jonathan Kamil - an outstanding achievement by three very deserving students.

166 students in total undertook and satisfactorily completed Year 12.
43 students achieved an ENTER of 90 or above.
48%, nearly half our cohort, achieved a rank of 80 or above.
20% of all study scores were 40 or above
8 study scores were a perfect score of 50.

157 students applied for a tertiary course.
142 students have received an offer so far and we wait today for more placements.
83% of these students received one of their top three preferences for courses; 74% university places and 26% TAFE places.

I wholeheartedly congratulate the many students who used the educational opportunities here at McKinnon to their advantage. I applaud all the staff here for their guidance and support of the Class of 2004. The foundation of that success begins while students are in Year 7, 8 and 9.

Mrs Binnion announces the new school captains, and deputy captains ...

Late last year, the Senior and Junior School Captain positions were advertised. Written applications were submitted and a panel for the Senior School , consisting of Mr Sargent, Mrs Holmes and elected student representative Nick Rowan and I, interviewed many very talented, dedicated individuals.

Unfortunately, we could not appoint all of them yet many students displayed the qualities we sought;

They understood that leadership was about making a positive difference

  • they were articulate and confident
  • they had participated in numerous activities over a number of years at McKinnon
  • they showed tremendous enthusiasm and a sense of belonging towards the college
  • they demonstrated commitment towards their studies
  • there was a real sense of honour about undertaking the roles and responsibilities and they all believed they could give back.

All these students deserve your support and encouragement.

It now gives me great pleasure to announce the Senior School Captains for 2005.

The Senior School Deputy Captains for 2005 are: David Heymann and Michelle Grima.

The Senior School Captains for 2005 are: David Barda and Melissa Sirianos.

Congratulations.
