The Storyteller |
On Friday 18 March and Monday 21 March, Year 8 students watched a presentation by Mr Lynton Allen, artist and story teller. He discussed the importance of developing positive relationships to help us through some of the difficult times that we may individually face in our lifetime. While he told his tales, Lynton produced several Australiana-style art works, such as Uluru and wildlife. Lynton presented himself, wearing hand-painted clothes. He commented that he could not find the type of clothes that he likes in the shops. His shirts on the two days were painted with dingoes and parrots. His work trousers were covered with Australian animals and sea creatures. His wry sense of humour captured the students. They were never quite sure what was coming next. The painting of a dolphin was accompanied by a story about a South Australian girl whose family boat was swamped by a huge wave. A pod of dolphins shepherded her to the shore as the storm continued, and she was eventually rescued. Students enjoyed the thrill of an ‘invisible’ painting showing up under ultra-violet light. Lynton imports this magic paint from America . These exceptional works are painted in a darkened room under blue light, and then he completes a charcoal sketch over the top. When illuminated, the surprise is revealed. Lynton works with teenagers to
creatively present today’s issues in a very different
context. He encourages positive thinking and acting
and deals with depression and anger. Lynton also
assists students explore personal growth and he tells
his stories in an Australian art context. Some funds It was a very unusual and enlightening presentation. Words and pictures by FOX / MCT |
