On Friday 19th August 2005, Year 7 watched a play performed by Dan and Gillian from ‘Brainstorm Productions’ entitled “Verbal Combat”. It was about a new girl at school, called Emily, being bullied by two other girls, Gabrielle and Katrina. Katrina was not really Gabrielle’s friend. She was really controlling her. Gabrielle wanted to belong to the ‘cool’ group.
When Emily’s diary was stolen, Gabrielle realised that everyone had treated Emily badly. She tried to return the diary to Emily, but Emily ran away and fell over a railing, seriously hurting her arm.
Dan and Gillian were trying to show us that everyone is different and needs to be treated with respect. Bullying is wrong because the person being bullied will get hurt and the bully will also get into trouble.
It was a worthwhile activity, as we saw what it was like to be bullied and we learned that bullying is wrong.
