Wheelchair Basketball |
YEAR 12 PE- Wheelchair basketball On Thursday 18 th August, the Year 12's as apart of their “influences on participation” unit experienced wheelchair basketball. Jason from “WheelTalk” gave us some insight into his injury and accident which involved him coming off a motorbike over the handle bars and spending close to 2 years in hospital as a result. It was interesting to note that of motor vehicle accidents, the 19-25 age group was the most likely to experience accidents, of which 90% will be males. There are many sports for those in wheelchairs, including rugby, tennis, waterskiing, football etc. Our game of basketball consisted of one rule, you must bounce the ball every three rotations of the wheel, apart from that it was free for all! Including, collisions, grabbing others wheels, stealing the ball off one's lap! Very hardcore! A sensational afternoon was had by all, and the experience of being confined to a wheelchair was certainly a reality check for all. Miss Jenkinson |
