This year the photos are bigger and better - and more plentiful. In fact, I filled up the camera for the first time on the day. Below are the memories of the 2006 Athletics Sports held at Duncan McKinnon Reserve on 13 April 2006 - the weather was great and the theme was - the Eighties so all the staff had to do was dress normally. Enjoy. KEL By the way, I hope you've got high bandwidth otherwise this page might take a LONG time to download. Splitting it into ten subpages takes rather too much time nowadays! |
From Mr Bustin - the event organiser... We prayed and prayed… and finally we got what we had wanted – good weather for the athletics carnival! The fact that for the first time, the event was held in April, rather than the usual August, made a big difference! The theme this year was the 1980’s and students really got into the spirit of it. Cindy Lauper, Madonna and some of the members of Def Leppard were just a few of the characters on show, along with hundreds of tight jeans, mullet hair styles, bright coloured make-up and fluorescent head gear. Along with the usual athletic events, this year saw the inaugural running of 2 events: The Staff v Student 4x400m steeplechase, where 4 senior students from each house, along with a staff team, raced around the track jumping 5 steeples along the way (including the water jump). Unfortunately (for the staff) the students won both the male and the female races – better luck in the Cross Country, staff! The 80-80 Relay, where a total of 80 students from each house, in turn ran 80 metres. The first team with all 80 members finished and sat down were the winners. Both these events were a huge success and will be sure to make next year’s program. Monash took home the carnival trophy, winning the competition, with last year’s winners Chisholm coming in second. Monash now have their sights on repeating Chisholm’s feet of last year, by winning all 3 carnivals in the same calendar year. Watch this space!!! A huge thank you to all staff and student volunteers who helped out – the successful running of the day would not have been possible without their time and effort. The top competitor from each event will progress onto the beachside competition, to be held in August. Training for the squad will commence in term 3. Steve Bustin, Athletics Carnival co-ordinator |
