Great Vic Bike Ride 2006 |
|
This year’s ride from Wangaratta to Whittlesea via Beechworth, Tallangatta, Mt Beauty, Myrtleford, Whitfield, Mansfield and Yea took in the major historic and picturesque tourist towns of North East Victoria. Covering a distance of 540km, our 47 students and six staff had to endure some of the toughest conditions seen on the ride in many years. For six of the riding days temperatures were in excess of 33 degrees, reaching 38 degrees on our first day which made more than a few students apprehensive about what lay ahead. After two major hill climbing days, lots of rolling hills and distances up to 80 km, students were feeling confident they could master anything. On completing the ride students had a great sense of achievement and excitement as they crossed the finish line. They were part of something special having participated with over 3,700 other riders in a community event of epic proportions. I’m sure as you view the photos you will admire the McKinnon tops which attracted many positive comments from other riders and I would like to once again thank our sponsors for their support. We look forward to seeing many of the students on the 2007 ride through Gippsland and encourage other students to ‘get pedalling’ and join us. Enjoy!! Stuart Baker GVBR organiser. |
