| Between the showers, the sun came out long enough for the Footy Fun Run to take off, led by the redoubtable Mr Bustin who writes: |

On the 3rd May, McKinnon held its third and final carnival for the year. Unfortunately, we had already used up our permitted amount of sunshine at the swimming and athletics carnivals, and rain and blistery winds were what greeted the runners around the course!! Despite the poor conditions, the students put on their footy gear and either ran, jogged or walked the course (5km for senior boys and 3km for all other age groups). Sam Teague took the honours in the blue ribbon event, winning the open boys 5km, with Simone Ostrouska winning the 3km open event for the girls. Sam and Simone will now be joined by the top 15 runners in each age group at the Beachside District championships, held in 2 weeks. On the house front, Monash took the honours and became only the second house in McKinnon’s history to win all 3 carnivals in the same year. They beat last year’s champions Chisholm by a record 390 points!!! Congratulations to all students who participated, even in the windy conditions – that’s what cross country is all about!!!
