On the 6th of August, the 2 ‘poms’ brought out the
best weather of the winter so far for the third and final
sports carnival of the year. All students gathered at a
warm and sunny Duncan Mackinnon ready to see
which House would take away this year’s crown.
As
the Olympics were starting in 2 days' time, the theme
this year was “Countries of the World”, with students
encouraged to dress in the colours of their favourite
country. Along with the expected high levels of
Green and Gold, there were various outfits from
across the globe including Germany, Jamaica,
Mexico and a small, yet great country called
England!!!!
The school had also hired special timing
gates that were placed at the finish to electronically
record students' times and places. Step aside
Beijing: McKinnon will show you how to do it! The day contained all the usual athletic events along
with the running of the staff vs student relay (which
the students won) and McKinnon’s very own 80-80
relay.
After all the results had been calculated, it was
declared that the red house of Gilmore had won their
second carnival of the year, having already taken out
the Cross Country carnival in May.
Any student that came first in an event, or second in
the 800m and 1500m, now goes on to represent the
school at the District Championships in September.
Congratulations to all students who got dressed up
and participated, and to all the members of Gilmore.
Also a huge thank you to all the staff that helped out
– the day would not run without them.
