THE ARTS Ceramics YEAR 10

VELS Level 5-6

Curriculum Focus

This unit focuses on teaching students how to ‘manipulate reality'. Students will become more independent in their approach to exploring, developing and refining images and forms visually. They will learn to generate ideas through the use of a visual diary. The study of different artists from various cultures and historical traditions will enable students to structure their art works into a more personal and individual expressive style. Abstraction, distortion and expressionism will be used to manipulate arts elements and principals to produce personal responses to given topics. Research into different artists, groups, cultures and historical traditions will provide inspiration for students' art works throughout this unit. Students will also gain an understanding of the impact of new technologies on the practice of art and research.

Learning Outcomes

At the completion of this unit, students are expected to make and present art works which explore themes, issues and ideas. Students will identify and explore the arts of different social, cultural and historical traditions to generate and develop ideas for art works. By using art elements, principles, skills, techniques and processes to structure it. Students will generate artwork for presentation and produce work suitable for particular audiences and possible selection into the Annual Art Show. The student will be able to analyse and interpret visual art works and discuss their responses in the form of a research project which will involve the use of learning technologies to assist the task. The emphasis of this unit of study is upon the student developing their own personal style and form of artistic expression.
