McKinnon Secondary College: sport

VSSSA & Beachside District

McKinnon is affiliated to the Victorian Secondary Schools Sports Association and participates in interschool sport in the Beachside District with winning teams proceeding to the Southern Zone and State finals.

The Beachside District Sports Group includes the following Secondary Colleges:

Beachside District provides competitive sporting opportunities for over 7000  students in the following sports:

Term 1 Sports
  • Cricket: Boys and Girls
  • Volleyball: Boys and Girls
  • Tennis: Boys and Girls
  • Baseball
  • Softball
Term 2 Sports
  • Football: Boys and Girls
  • Soccer: Boys and Girls
  • Badminton: Boys and Girls
  • Netball: Boys and Girls
Term 3 Sports
  • Basketball: Boys and Girls
  • Hockey: Boys and Girls
  • Squash: Boys and Girls
  • Table Tennis: Boys and Girls
Students are also encouraged to participate in trials for VSSSA state teams and individual sports. Students can obtain details from the Sport Manager.

Year 7 & 8 Sport
The interschool sports listed above are  played during the Sport Education afternoon lesson.  This usually comprises four rounds of weekly competition with the winning team playing in the Beachside District Final.

Intermediate Sport
At Years 9 & 10 interschool sport consists of a one day Round Robin competition involving all schools from the Beachside District. Students at Year 9 can gain team selection through  their Sport Education Programme, whilst students at Year 10 have the opportunity to attend trials at selected times as advised in the daily bulletin.

Senior Sport
At Years 11 & 12  all day Round Robin competitions are held during terms 1 and 2.
Term 3 sports listed above are allocated to term 1 and term 2.  Students sign up prior to the events and training schedules are then arranged by team coaches.
