McKinnon Secondary College: Sport

Sport Education

Introduction
Students in Years 7 - 9 undertake 100 minutes of Sport Education a week. Students participate in a different sport each term choosing from a wide variety of sports offered. Many of the sports provide the opportunity to participate in interschool sports competition through the Beachside District Sports Group, while other sports are of a more recreational nature.
A typical sport education lesson involves warm up activities, skill development and modified games, leading on in later weeks to a full game.
Many of the sports take place in the school grounds, nearby ovals and other neighbourhood recreational facilities. While most of the sports are covered by the voluntary contribution several sports incur an additional fee, eg. aerobics, self defence, golf and swimming.
All parents are required to complete a Student Permission Form at the beginning of the school year.
All students are required to change into full sport uniform prior to the start of the afternoon activity.  Students may go home in their sport uniform. Students unchanged or not in correct uniform will need an explanatory note. These students will not be allowed to participate in sport.
