BYTES

The BYTES program is an exciting initiative for Year 9 Students.  Running for 6 periods per week, BYTES is made up of compulsory modules and elective modules, allowing students to have a say in what they would like to learn and placing responsibility for learning on them.

The compulsory modules of 9UP and Sex, Drugs & Rock n’Roll promote the BYTES skills of teamwork, communication, relationship building, leadership and community awareness as well as reasoning and thinking.
The elective modules allow students to carefully choose areas of interest, are rich in new technologies and are designed to further develop and promote the BYTES skills.

Students learn to use digital still and video cameras, web building software, Mac and PCs, movie editing software, they design software and are also given the opportunity to take part in some memorable experiences such as presenting their research in front of a lecture theatre full of parents and peers, hiking in Duke of Ed, teaching sporting skills to primary school students in McKinnon Sports Leadership Award, or designing their own fashion garment in Fashion Culture.

Now in its third year, BYTES has continued to grow and change in order to improve outcomes for students.  With the completion of the custom-built MERC (McKinnon Exploration & Research Centre), students have access to state-of-the-art facilities and technologies.
