At McKinnon Book Club, we endeavour to:
- Foster a love of reading and literature
- Develop in students a willingness to discuss their reading with others
- Provide a safe and friendly environment for students to interact with others from different classes and year levels
- Promote a sense of connectedness to the whole school community
- Encourage a tolerance for a variety of different viewpoints
Students from all year levels are welcome to come to our fortnightly meetings to share and converse about various forms of writing.
In 2009, there will be an opportunity for senior students to mentor younger students in their reading choices. This will provide an opportunity for senior students to assume positions of responsibility and leadership.
For junior students, a Book Club Mentor would offer another form of support in their effort to transition successfully into life in a secondary college.
