McKinnon Secondary College

International Student Programme

McKinnon Secondary College is a large coeducational and multicultural college of around 1400 students. The college is located 12 km south east from the city and is well served by both train and bus. The college was established in 1954 and the international programme has been operating since 2001.  Most international students come from China, South Korea and a variety of other Asian countries.

The college has a long and proud tradition of academic excellence, which attracts high quality international students eager to enhance their opportunity to go on to university. The college takes pride in valuing achievement and encouraging a strong work ethic.  The majority of our students aspire to and achieve entry to university. 100% of our students completed their VCE in 2006 and 78% of students went on to university. In 2007, 50% of our international students achieved an Enter Score of over 89 while over 87% achieved a score greater than 81.
The college curriculum is based on traditional subject disciplines enabling students to maximise their subject choice in later years. In 2008 the college will offer over 30 VCE subjects.

The college offers an extensive instrumental music program providing a range of bands, orchestras and choir and culminating in the annual winter concert held at Monash University. Drama and musical productions are also a regular feature of the college calendar.
International students are encouraged to participate in all these aspects of college life, including debating, Asia Festival, extensive sport programme,  Duke of Edinburgh Award, subject based competitions and camps and excursions at each level.

The college has a range of people to cater for the welfare needs of international students including the International Student Coordinator, year level coordinators, form teachers and careers teachers.
