Computer
Types
McKinnon Secondary College's computers are IBM compatibles and Apple. If you own a Macintosh at home, any non-art/media documents your student needs to use in a computer lab must be saved in PC file format.
Software
Used

The college uses the following software as standard:

Windows XP. (Vista will be introduced in 2009.)
Microsoft Office 2007 (Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint, Publisher, Project)
Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer.
File Maker Pro 8.5
Photoshop CS3
Flash 8
Dreamweaver 8

Inspiration 6

Note: we can not read MS Works documents. If you have Office 2003 at home, students taking work home must save it in Office 2003 format.

File
Formats
Graphics files should be in GIF format (for line art) or JPG (for photos). Bitmap (BMP) files are not allowed in students' network directories because of their size.
Large
Files

The use of multimedia has been increasing file sizes dramatically over recent years: floppy disks are no longer big enough to hold many modern files. If students need to convey large files to and from school, use a USB Flash RAM drive.

We do not support floppy disks or Zip disks.

Class computers do not have CD/DVD drives.

NOTE - no programs may be brought to the college. All CDs or memory sticks must be checked by a teacher before being used in college computer.
