General Information

The Alan Lawrence Theatre is a well-equipped theatre that is ideally suited to serve schools, theatre, music and dance groups and for seminar and conference presentations.  It can accommodate 250 patrons.

 

The theatre is situated at McKinnon Secondary College, McKinnon Rd. McKinnon.

 

Parking is available for patrons of the theatre, free of charge, within the school grounds (outside of school hours, weekends and during school holidays), with access via McKinnon Rd.

 

Staff

The Assistant Principal, Mr Andrew Chisholm, administers the theatre.  Any use of the theatre is conducted under the supervision of a trained senior student and/or staff member.  The role of this person is to ensure the safe use and maintenance of theatre equipment.  There is an hourly charge for the employment of this person who must remain to lock up and alarm the building.

 

Theatre

The theatre is equipped with the following features:

 

·         Total stage size of 14.6 metres by 8 metres

·         Stage size to the wings is 8.4 metres by 8 metres

·         Large Foyer/Gallery size approx. 9 metres by 6 metres with kitchen/servery

·         Stage height 4 metres

·         Hand operated front of house curtain and traveller midstage

·         Computer interface to control lights, sound, AV equipment from the stage or biobox/control room

·         Equipped with: VCR, DVD facilities; multimedia presentations e.g PowerPoints etc.

·         Excellent surround sound and acoustics

·         Wheel chair access into all areas of the theatre

·         As new condition, as it was built at the end of 2004 and well maintained

·         Seats 250 people (tiered rows)

·         Stage lighting and access to backdrop and cyclorama

 

Dressing Rooms

There are separate girls and boy’s classrooms running adjacent to the theatre with no mirrors.  Male and female toilets are situated off the front foyer, but are not to be used for make-up.

 

Music

The theatre has no orchestra pit.

 

Piano

A grand piano is available if necessary, for an extra charge and is serviced regularly.  We require seven days' notice if a piano is required on stage.

 

Kitchen/Servery

The kitchen is equipped with an instant hot water urn, fridge, microwave, dishwasher, pie warmer and some crockery and glassware.

 

Functions/Catering

Hirers have full use of the kitchen/servery to cater for their function or bring in outside catering services.  Should you elect to sell alcohol on our premises it is up to you to obtain a liquor licence from the Liquor Licensing Commission.  You must provide us with a copy of this licence.

 

Food/Drink

It is also requested that no food or beverages be consumed in the theatre’s auditorium.  Food is restricted to the entry foyer adjacent to the kitchen/servery.

 

Cleaning

Theatre hire charges include cleaning of the theatre by our contracted cleaners.  Cleaning is carried out every day following a performance.  However, all hirers are expected to do basic cleaning and remove any rubbish.  If using the kitchen and its equipment the hirer is responsible for cleaning and washing-up.  Report any damage/ breakages.

 

Should the theatre supervisor deem appropriate that additional cleaning is necessary, an extra charge will be applied to the hirer taken out of the bond) for any areas left in an unsatisfactory state. No glitter may be used in any inside areas of the theatre or school buildings.

 

Front of house

The foyer area of the theatre is equipped with some casual furniture.  It can be used to sell tickets, refreshments and programmes.  There are two display boards for use by the hirer as well.

 

Insurance

The school insurance policy covers the hirer while in the school buildings.

 

Bump In

Scaffolding is available for lighting adjustments.  No fly.

 

Bump Out Requirements

All theatre users are expected to restore the lighting, sound, curtains and equipment to the set theatre plan.  This is usually done at the end of the (final) performance.
