Year 7 Art/English Excursion

On Friday the 24th of April 7D attended the National Gallery of Victoria to participate in both of the Art and English guided tours as well as an interactive art workshop.

The day began with the Art of English gallery tour. Students had the opportunity to explore and respond to a number of artworks including Picasso's painting The Weeping Woman. It was a wonderful opportunity to be able to see an original Picasso painting in real life.

Our next guided tour was the Art of Play. Students responded to works of art using a lucky dip Mystery Bag. They were given ordinary everyday objects from the Mystery Bag which they then had to relate in some way to a painting of their choice. Students were asked to present their ideas to the rest of the class. This exercise was a lot of fun as it was not always an easy task to find a common link between the objects from the bag and the paintings. There were some very creative responses.

After lunch students participated in a one hour art workshop using coloured paper and plastic jewels to create a collage in response to the fashion designers Romance Was Born. The students thoroughly enjoyed this experience and created some wonderful artworks of their own.

We would like to thank all of the education staff at the National Gallery of Victoria for making our visit to the gallery such a memorable experience.
