Music Performance Brass Night

An evening of music. An evening of expression. An evening to be remembered.

Brass players brought their trumpets, tubas, trombones and French horns to the Allan Lawrence Lecture Theatre on a chilly Thursday night. Instruments, cool in the trembling hands of nervous players.

The audience was buzzing with proud parents eager to bath in the music of their children. A hush came over the crowd as the opening act, WonderBrass,  blew listeners away with a stunning performance of Brooklyn, a funky piece written by the Youngblood Brass Band. What followed can only be described as a musical feast as McKinnon's exceptional musicians, with players from all year levels displaying an array of skill levels, performed solos, duets and large ensembles of up to 40 young brass-nuts.

Thank you to all those who came to the night, including students and audiences. Another special thank you to Nick Xanthoudakis for managing sound and backing tracks and to Andrew Krause for photographing the event. An even bigger thank you to the teachers involved in making the night possible, Tracy Videon, Dmitry Serebrianik, Su Rogerson and Martin West.  The night wouldn’t have been possible without the combined efforts to organize all the rehearsals and coordinate students. Extra special mention to Tracy Videon for  wonderful brass-instrument installation pieces that featured on stage.

Hope to see you all there next year!
