State Cross Country

On Thursday 14th July, McKinnon’s finest endurance athletes made the journey across town to Bundoora Park for the SSV State CrossCountry Championships. We were represented by 12 athletes from Years 7 to 12 on the day and came home with 2 silver medals, 5 top 10 finishes and a number of personal best times.

In the Under 13 3km events we were represented by May Landau (17th position 11:17mins) and AdamPaliatsos (67th 11:10mins).

In the Under 14 3km events we had some huge results with Genevieve O’Brien finishing just out of the medal
positions (4th 10:31), and Will Sharp taking out the silver medal (2nd 9:08)

In the Under 15 3km events Eleanora Gilbert (48th 12:17) and Jason Clayton (4th 9:02) both had superb runs, with Jason just missing out on the Bronze medal in a sprint to the finish line.

In the senior girls, Sophie Highnam (6th 10:51) and Freya Parker (39th 12:12) both had solid runs and finished with great times. The 5km events completed the day, with our Under 16 boys Lachie Arniel (40th 17:35), Josh Boul (45th 17:41), and Alex Boul (48th 17:42) running together for the entire race and picking up plenty of positions in the final kilometre.

In the final event of the day, McKinnon running superstar William Ockenden smashed his 5km event to finish
2nd in a time of 14:40 for the 5 kilometres. Well done to all the runners who represented McKinnon this entire CrossCountry season, and good luck in the upcoming Athletics season that we now turn our attention to.
