INTERMEDIATE GIRLS CRICKET

The Intermediate Girls Cricket team took on Brighton Secondary College in a winner take all T20 match for the Kingston Division Championship. Newly appointed captain, Emma Langley, won the toss and sent Brighton in to bat on what appeared to be a menacing wicket for batsmen at McKinnon Reserve.

Tayla Fischer was thrown the new ball and her pace was too much to handle, ripping through Brighton’s top order and providing the perfect start for McKinnon. Victorian representative, Kampi Nainhabo chimed in with 3 wickets from her 4 overs in what was a classy display of swing bowling, leaving the visitors all out for a moderate total of 75.

An early partnership of 30 between Coco Parker and May Landau gave McKinnon a steady start in the run chase, before a mix up resulted in Parker being run out from a nice piece of Brighton fielding. This brought Emma Langley to the crease who demonstrated a fine innings of explosive hitting, sending one Brighton bowler over the mid-wicket fence for a maximum.

The McKinnon batting lineup proved too strong in the end with Brighton’s total being chased down within 18 overs. The game was played in great spirit and the McKinnon girls look forward to the next round later this year.
