Year 8 Girls Tennis

On Thursday 22 November, the Year 8 Girls (as School Sport Victoria Regional Champions), set off to play in the State Finals against schools from across the state.  We were down to the last eight with our champion team of Joanna LeeGeorgia ForanSurina ChakravortyLisa Liu and Sophie Willis

Initially we had a slow start but we quickly found our rhythm. Against the first school in our pool - Mary MacKillop, Leongatha we had a hard time but then we confidently paved a path that would take us to the Semi-Finals by beating St Joseph’s Horsham and Heathmont. As pool winners we played University High School. It was a nail biting game in the Semi-Finals. We drew so close with them with even sets and even games. This meant we had to play a decider to determine whether we rose or fell. One game all ... two one down ... it was a fierce battle for the match, with determined looks of gladiators our warriors lost yet another game, resulting in puddles of tears on the green (synthetic grass). Now we had lost. There was nothing else to do but shake hands, hang heads and walk away contemplating our defeat. This time we lost and came 3rd in the State but ... “we’ll get ‘em next time for sure ….

Thank you to Mrs Hooper for her support and assistance from when we began in Term 1 through to our State Final in Term 4 and to the Assistant Coach Sam Bajracharya, who gave us great advice at training and at the Finals.

Go McK!
