McKinnon Beach Volleyball Championships 2021

Wow, what an incredible week for our school, our community and our volleyball program. It has been such a wonderful few days, with the sun stunning and bright and little to no wind for the entire tournament duration.

Rhiannon and I would like to thank you all for the support of the program throughout the year so far, getting all the athletes back to training so smoothly, and of course, for all your well wishes and luck for the last three days that have been.

We took away with us over the course of the three days a total of 35 teams consisting of teams that played in pairs and fours. We would like to report the exciting success of the following teams below:

- Year 7 boys 4s - Winners and the best ranked team in Victoria (Ramon Nelson- Jimnenez, Ofri Grossman, Xavier Wadeson, Alon Atash)
- Year 7 girls 4s - 2nd ranked team in Victoria (Emily Ng, Levana Chum, Gwendolyn Thiere, Brit Apps)
- Year 9 boys 2s - Winners and the best ranked team in Victoria (James Kay, Angus Apps)
- Year 9 girls 2s - 3rd ranked team in Victoria (Kyla Peel, Hannah Foran)
- Year 10 girls 4s - Winners and the best ranked team in Victoria (Molly Forehan, Kate McGlone, Aspen Lehmann, Bianca Sguario)
- Year 11 girls 2s - 2nd ranked team in Victoria (Ashleigh Hart, Amber Lotzof)
- Year 11 girls 2s - 3rd ranked team in Victoria (Molly Forehan, Aspen Lehmann)
- Year 11 boys 2s - Winner and the best ranked team in Victoria (Thomas Howells, Alec Rae)
- Year 11 boys 2s - 2nd ranked team in Victoria (Max Chilco- Burns, James Kay)
- Year 12 boys - Winners and the best ranked team in Victoria (Sam Kay, Will Kay)

With the ranking success of these individual teams, and the incredible on court display from all others that took part, it is also with much excitement that Rhiannon and I also announce we have also come home with the 2021 title of the No.1 Beach Volleyball School in Victoria!

While winning and coming 1st has never been a focus of our program, this ranking comes as a by-product of our athletes working hard and trusting the process, wanting to represent their school at their best, and choosing to play this sport for the right reasons. We are surrounded by such a supportive community and Rhiannon and I are so privileged and lucky to have the opportunity to run such a special program.

We had a very special moment early on one of the mornings where a butterfly greeted one of our students on court. If you're a tennis fan, or know of the Naomi Osaka butterfly moment during this year's Australian Open, then you would say this on court moment for us at this time was perhaps a sign of the success that was to come.

Included are a few highlight images from the three days which show just how special this community is, including the gorgeous butterfly snap should you wish to have a look.
