Intermediate Girls Cricket team win title of Kingston Champion!

Last Monday, the Inter Girls cricket team played 3 matches at Duncan McKinnon in the Kingston Division Cricket comp.

First up we played Bentleigh. We batted first with Rowen Hull and Yeheni Dona Gabadage opening the batting making 38 between them. We batted out the overs, making a strong score of 56. Bentleigh had a tough run chase ahead of them. We had a good spread of bowlers, with Cailtin Lyon taking a wicket and Annabelle Sukarai with an amazing run out that surprised even her! Bentleigh made 37 off their overs.

Next we played newly established Beaumaris College. Opening the batting this time was Aspen Lehmann and Rowen Hull and I bet Beaumaris wished they hadn't. With an unbeaten partnership of 70 off 10 overs! Aspen had a day out with 5 boundaries. Beaumaris managed 45 off their 10 overs, our bowlers and fielders also leading the way taking 5 wickets.

Finally, we had a play off with Brighton for the title of Kingston Champion. We won our first toss and chose to bowl. Some new bowlers stepped up, sharing around the 8 wickets! Caitlin Lyon, Joo Ji and Arden Bailey each with 2 wickets each and a great stumping by the wicker keeper, Bianca Sguario.
Needing 24 to win, we were quietly confident going in to bat but when Brighton's first two bowlers bowled maiden overs, we were getting a little nervous. Luckily, Aspen and Bianca were up to the task and made the required runs with 4 overs to spare.

Thanks to all the girls for their commitment and their efforts at training sessions and on the day. We are looking forward to the next round in October!
