Year 9 Camp 2021

During week 4 of term 3 the Year 9 cohort were lucky enough to escape McKinnon and go to Kyneton PGL Campaspe Downs Adventure camp. Group one set off on Monday the 2nd and Group two on Wednesday the 4th. There was huge excitement amongst us all, as many camps had been canceled in the last year so we couldn’t wait to finally get away.

Although a little chilly, we braved the cold and got to participate in activities including a four person flying fox, a twin giant swing, rock climbing, coneing, archery, and team building activities.

Thanks to the rain it was perhaps the muddiest place many of us had ever been to and our shoes had to be sacrificed despite many efforts to avoid the mud. There was no way that we were going home clean. The rain did however create perfect conditions for the mud run course which was a highlight for many. There was no holding back as we submerged ourselves in the thick slush while our teachers captured the moment.

So many amazing memories were created over the three days! We got to participate in a ‘Reach’ session which allowed us to connect and interact with others who we may never have normally talked to. This was a positive experience as it was great to feel the support from all of our peers.

The announcement of Victoria's 6th lockdown sure didn’t dampen the liveliness of the camp. If anything, we ramped it up. On Thursday night we learnt that the rest of the state had gone into lockdown, but not us! We were safe in our own little bubble and got to enjoy an additional day away from chaos. We carried this excitement to our night activities of either playing sport with our mates, viewing the Olympics, watching a movie or playing trivia. The Trivia nights were a huge hit thanks to the teachers involved. It was such a fun and competitive atmosphere where we danced, sang/yelled and spent time with our friends.

A huge thanks to our amazing Student Managers and to all of the teachers who organised the camp and came with us. All of your hard work definitely paid off as it was a camp we will never forget!
