Thistlelonians 50th Afternoon Tea

The classes of 1970, 1971 and 1972 were invited back to school on Sunday to celebrate 50 years since graduation. This event had to be postponed for the last two years, so it was wonderful to be able to showcase the school to our alumni.

Attendees had a wonderful time touring the school and were amazed at how much it has changed and grown.

Thank you to Clare Bugeja and the students from the string quintet, Andrew Seamer (Year 12), Jenny Jung (Year 11), Phoebe Rodda (Year 10), Jack Sweeney (Year 10) and Adrian Wan (Year 10) who helped make the day memorable.

Thank you also to Geoff Woolnough, Jenny Cooke, Melanie Lynch and the Thistlelonian committee for their work in making the day successful.

Some notes of gratitude:

Good morning to Ms Pitsa Binnion (Principal), the Thistlelonians Community Members and all

I wish to convey, another big thank you, to all of you, for a wonderful function held yesterday 15 May 2022.  Great memories to treasure and delight to see how McKinnon Secondary school had evolved from days past.

Thank you to the Committee who organised the 50th reunion for my 1970 class on Sunday. I had a lovely afternoon catching up with classmates and visiting the “new” school buildings.

Best wishes to Pitsa for her final few months at the school. She will be greatly missed.

Shirley Mirams (nee Butterworth)

I had the pleasure of attending the reunion and wanted to thank you, Pitsa and the team for the splendid job you did in arranging the event. I couldn’t believe how much the school has changed at least in terms of its physical layout and the quality of the facilities. It is very obvious the commitment to high quality educational outcomes hasn’t changed though nor has the interest shown by you guys to the former students. I caught up with a lot of school friends whom I haven’t seen for 30 years and have made arrangements to continue the contact outside of the Thistleonians.

It was just so good of all of you to give up your time on a Sunday for this event.

Thank you thank you thank you.

Mike Richards (Class of 71)
