Year 7 Cricket Team State Champions!

Congratulations to the Year 7 cricket team who have been crowned State champions.

In the semi-final we batted first and made an incredible score of 0/137 from 20 overs.

Harish S displayed one of the greatest batting performances in McKinnon cricket history. He made 75 not out and carried us to victory. Alex B also batted superbly for 35 and Archer H chipped in with 20.

The final was against Maribyrnong SC who batted first and made 78. We bowled and fielded very well with Neel P and Archer H being the main wicket takers.

We cruised to victory in 9 overs with Alex B guiding us to victory with a brilliant 40 not out, supported by Archer H with 30 not out.

What an incredible team effort by all!

Thank you to Mr Greg Hoskin for his coaching expertise and Mr James Bridges for his encouragement and support.

JOURNEY TO STATE FINALS

Term 4 has been very successful for our Kingston Division winning Year 7 cricket team. The first hurdle came against Kambrya College in the Southern Metro Region (SMR) quarter final.

Bowling first, we were able to consistently get wickets throughout the Kambrya innings and restricted them to 9/64 off their 20 overs. The major highlight of the bowling was Rory W claiming a hat trick with his off spinners.

In reply, we lost a couple of early wickets with the composure of Alex B (28 not out) and Archer H (16 not out) we were able to chase down their total quite comfortably.

This qualified us for the semi-final vs Cheltenham SC. Batting first, McKinnon SC made the huge score of 3/198 off our 20 overs. Ayan A batted superbly for his 71 and was ably assisted by Tanish S with 65 and the aggressive Harvey W with 43 not out at the end of the innings. Cheltenham were never in the hunt as we managed to knock them over for 37. Ishi T claimed the second hat trick for the team with the unbelievable figures of 4/0. Harvey W and Archer H both chipped in with two wickets apiece.

In the SMR final we played against the strong Frankston High. McKinnon SC batted first and posted a very competitive 4/143 off 20 overs. Archer H controlled the middle and later end of the innings with 43 not out. Ayan A was again the star at the top of the order with a quality innings of 38 and Tanish S made 24.

We managed to get a flurry of early wickets which put Frankston on the back foot in reply. Akshaj G bowled beautifully to claim three early wickets and despite steadying from the early onslaught, Frankston never threatened our total with a modest 73.

Winning the SMR final qualified us to take on the Gippsland Region winner in the State quarter final. We travelled out to the picturesque Yarragon Cricket Ground to take on the Catholic College Sale.

Batting first, we managed to post a competitive total of 97 on a big and slow ground with only one boundary being hit for the innings. Ayan A batted well for 27 and we had small contributions from Harvey W (16), Archer H (12), Harish S (12) and Alex B (11) to get us up to our total.

In a very tense reply we were able to restrict the Catholic College Sale to 6/87. We bowled and fielded very well against a very talented batting line up with Riva Guliya pulling off a match turning run out. Harvey W was the leading wicket taker with two but all of our bowlers played their part.
